Fintastic
IMAX Film Fest Opens at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX® 3D
Theater
CHATTANOOGA,
Tenn. (Feb. 1, 2001) - Get ready. Get set. Get wet. For the first
time since opening, the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX® 3D Theater
is offering a Fintastic Film Fest, featuring six IMAX films
this spring. Water - wild and mild - is the common theme for this
fascinating film series. Just in time for spring break you'll
see some old favorites and some popular new films that have yet
to debut in Chattanooga. The festival opens March 17 and ends
April 8.
The six aquatic films are:
"Galapagos": 3D
Sea lion pups frolic with you in tidal pools and giant tortoises
and iguanas appear tame and even curious about your presence.
Dive into "Galapagos," the newest 3D film, where schools of hammerhead
sharks swim above you and a group of inquisitive moray eels emerge
from their cave to look at you, jaws gaping. "Galapagos" is a
fantastic voyage to a strange world hidden within our own. All
Week: Noon, 2 & 7 PM ET
"Whales": 2D
Meet blue, orca, white whales and dolphins as they travel thousands
of miles from the krill blooms off the frigid coast of Alaska
to calve in the warm waters of Hawaii. Featuring spectacular underwater
footage of mothers, calves and escorts, "Whales" reveals many
little-known aspects of these elusive creatures and celebrates
the music, play and incredible strength of the earth's largest
inhabitants. All Week: 5 PM ET
"Island of the Sharks": 2D
The natural wonders of Cocos Island are captured in Island of
the Sharks, a thrilling underwater adventure that immerses audiences
in the waters of this Pacific paradise to swim with sharks, manta
rays, marlin and giant sea turtles. Formed by a volcano, the rugged
underwater topography of Cocos Island helps bring deep ocean currents
to the surface carrying a wealth of nutrients. Located 300 miles
of the coast of Costa Rica, Cocos Island hosts a dazzling array
of sharks. White-tip, hammerhead, black-tip and silky sharks congregate
here, some traveling thousands of miles. Sunday - Thursday:
11 AM & 4 PM and Friday - Saturday: 11 AM, 4 & 8 PM ET
"Dolphins": 2D
From the dazzling coral reefs of the Bahamas to the wind-swept
seas of Patagonia, "Dolphins" takes audiences under the water's
surface for a romp with inquisitive Atlantic spotted dolphins,
acrobatic dusky dolphins and the familiar bottlenose dolphin of
"Flipper" fame. From rarely seen fish-herding behavior to a close-up
look at complex communication activities, "Dolphins" will give
audiences a fascinating new perspective on the lives of dolphins
and their remarkable intelligence. All Week: 6 PM ET
"The Living Sea": 2D
"The Living Sea" celebrates the World Ocean - its beauty, diversity
and importance to life on Earth. Filmed in locations around the
world, "The Living Sea" explores our relationship with this complex,
fragile living environment. The film features songs and music
by Sting and narration by Meryl Streep. All Week: 3 PM ET
"Into The Deep": 3D
Journey to an enchanting underwater world of swaying kelp forests
and glowing corals. Swim nose-to-nose with colorful garibaldi,
starfish, and sharks; play tag with sea lions; observe the frenzied
mating of the opalescent squid and other rarely seen behavior
